Joe- The most recent Barna research points to about 16% of the US population as born-again, authentic believers. I agree with your point - the true believers are mostly buried within the organized church, thought there are pockets of strong smaller churches and home churches filled with solid believers...led by solid, bible preaching/teaching Pastors. I think the belief polls just show us that one day the wheat will be separated from the tares. The "seeker sensitive" evangelical movement may be good at drawing people into the building, but they can't go from professing to possessing without strong proclamation of THE WORD and then solid discipleship...we get a lot visitors, but few converts. In the end, this might just be the parable of the seeds in action.
