I'm confused anout "what defiles a man..."

john - could you please explain this statement, it confused me: "what defiles a man is what comes out of his mouth and be intertained" regardless of what you meant or how i interpreted your comment, that verse is pretty much what jeremy, nate, and i were talking about. matthew 15:11: "What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.' " continuing with my previous example, watching a movie with swearing in it does not make me 'unclean' as Jesus put it. what comes out of my mouth is what makes me unclean. check out the second part of matthew 24:34: "For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks." if watching a movie with swearing begins to affect my heart (which is seen outwardly by what comes out of my mouth), then i should not be watching movies with swearing. the same goes for violence and other things that are found in movies. i do, however, still agree with jeremy in that sex and nudity is a different story. sex is something that God has intended for a man and his wife and no one else. i don't think we need to be seeing any kind of depiction of it onscreen. and while i can't say this with 100% certainty because i'm just me and no one else...i really don't see how a man can watch something like that and not be tempted or have it not affect his heart. as for the following comment: "I do not see how if you are born again you can be carbon copies of the world and say Im going to be intertained by sin while not sinning" i personally am not entertained by swearing, and i don't know anyone (Christian or not) who is. as for the violence in movies, (i'm gonna steal what jeremy said here): "I know when I sit down to watch a movie with violence, that it is not real. It is manufactured. No one in reality has been hurt." i really enjoyed the movie the dark knight. it is one of my favorite films. there is a lot of violence in this movie, but i know that none of it was real. if there really was someone like the joker who was going around terrorizing a city somewhere, i would NOT sit and watch him do so for entertainment. watching a movie with violence in it for entertainment and watching the same violent actions depicted in the movie play out for real are two different things. however, regardless of our opinions, we each have our own convictions. if you choose not to watch any movies with an r rating or primetime tv, that is your decision and Christians who don't agree with you should not judge you for that. in the same way, those of us who do not see an issue with it have made our decision, and Christians who disagree with us should not judge us for it. thanks for taking the time to talk with us.
