Is it OK to be judgmental?

Posted on Thursday, Sep 17th, 2009 at 9:04pm by SteveNoble

"You Christians are so judgmental!"  This is the most common complaint we hear, is it not?  People throw the "judge not lest ye be judged" verse around ALL THE TIME...but does it really mean what most people think it means?  What do you think?  I THINK WE SHOULD BE JUDGMENTAL, DON'T YOU?

We must judge....but we must judge righteously......

When Jesus returns and we are taken to heaven....it is written that we will judge the angels. As you stated...this world needs judgement, with all the things that I witness daily...and the people I have to work with. I have no problem rendering judgement. But to judge righteously is to judge by the Word of God. Turn to your bible...study...and deliver righteous judgement...telling sinners to repent of their sins...and to believe in and follow Christ Jesus. Judge not lest ye be judged does not mean to not open your mouth to others. It does mean that if you do judge others with your mouth...then others will be quick to judge you with theirs...which occurs daily in the news...and in this culture is now one of the larger problems. Mostly by un-believers..who want to be compared to others to make them feel better about their sinfullness...not judged against the standard of God...by which ALL men fail. But there is only ONE judgement that counts...God's Righteous judgement. Once washed by the blood...in atonement..we are free from God's wrath and judgement....the second death, as it were.
May God help us all, Amen

Judging

The simple answer to someone stating, "you Christians are so judgemental!" is

AMEN!!!

Well, we are to rebuke, exhort, reproach, and judge righteous judgement, so yes we should.

This verse is taken completely out of context.

We are not to judge before we do what verse 5 says: 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye.

So if we are not to judge, why are we to first cast out the beam out of our eye and THEN we see clearly to cast it out of our brother?

It's simple. We better not be judging when we ourselves are guilty of the same thing!

In light of Galatians 6:1

We are commanded to help those that have fallen into sin. We are to "restore such an one" how; in a spirit of meekness. Why? Because its only by God's Grace that we are not in the same predicament.

Stand up for the Lord against evil in our government

Dear Christian Patriotic citizens,

Please check out the Constitution Party (www.constitutionpartync.), the only poltical Party that stands for godly principles in government. If we Christians don't start speaking up, we will have no one to blame but ourselves when we are no longer free to worship our Lord!

Is it okay to be judgmental?

Perhaps the word judgmental may be akin to condemnation, however i do believe that God expects us to judge between right and wrong, good and evil. If Christians fail to discern between good and evil then we let the lines between good and evil , right and wrong, becomes very faint or blurred. God's perception of good and evil, right and wrong never changes. When we judge, we must judge by God's perception, the Bible says we have the mind of Christ. Our judgment should not be based on our personal opinion but on God's opinion.I do believe we should judge but not condemn. Many who are Christians today would have been condemned to damnation by man, but for the mercies and grace of God we would not be saved. So we judge but we cannot condemn or give up on anyone by reason of our judgment!

should christions be judgemental

I know it very hard these days not to be judgemental. Espinocally considering the way people are behaving, or should we say not behaving. Sometimes I think what is the world is happening to people, Why don't the parents teach their children the golden rule "do unto others as you would have them do unto you. But I guess that Jesus said it better than anyone "LET HE WHO IS WITHOUT SIN CAST THE FIRST STONE". So when I get frustrated with people, just remember those word.

be careful!

Throwing the first stone was about condemnation, not calling sin, sin! Clearly that woman was guilty of adultery and Jesus said as much, but the crowd wanted to carry out the condemnation and that is where He got them! Finally, what happened to the punishment of death the law called for? Oh yeah...that's right! Jesus took that bullet for her when she repented! Amen!

Is it OK to be judgmental?

Yeah, people love to throw that verse at you, but here's one to throw back at them:

John 7:24
Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment."

This is only a theory of mine, but I believe that one of the goals of political correctness is to take away our ability to judge accurately.

Has anyone ever been told that you shouldn't stereotype or generalize or discriminate? Does not a person who thinks critically do all of the above?

This may seem a little off topic, but I don't think so, because p.c. folks are some of the main quoters of this verse.

Is It OK to be Judgmental?

Steve, as we move through the Truth Project and see more clearly our world and culture from God's perspective; I understand that what the world throws into my face as 'judgement' is only my continuing spiritual growth and sensitivity to God's commands. In short, if I appear judgmental, it is because I see sin, more and more, as God sees it. So, a Christian being 'judgmental' is simply that Christian reflecting God's view as revealed to us through His Word, the Bible.

Just as important, God's Word also tells us that we are to speak to the non-believer ?gently? understanding that he, or she, is in bondage to the lies of the world, the flesh and the devil.

a disciple of the Truth!

Right on, brother! We are commanded to engage the world around us by applying God's Truth with love and gentleness, which is tricky, but apply it we must and judge rightly and speak it! I'm so grateful for The Truth Project and believe that EVERY Christian should go through it! Visit www.thetruthproject.com

"The spiritual man makes

"The spiritual man makes judgements about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man's judgement: "For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?" But we have the mind of Christ." 1 Corinthians 2:15,16
I heard on the radio several years ago that the scripture most used in the public forum had changed over the past 20 years. 20 years ago, it was John 3:16. Now, it has become Matthew 7:1. This is simply an attempt by the forces of hell to silence Christians in our society.

Judge Unbelievers No, Believers Rebuke

If you read the end of I Cor 5. You come to understand the meaning more clearly. If a person does not want you to judge them. Then they are either a unbeliever or a believer trying to live in sin. Therefore if they are a unbeliever you should not be judgeing them. If they are a believer you must make sure you have the plank out of your eye first then go to them. And if you do not go to them then you your self are not obeying Jesus comand. (sinning) Living the true christian walk is not easy in your self only with the Holy Spirit is it.

Is it okay to be judgmental?

1) The whole scripture must be concidered, so here it is "Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgement ye judge, ye sahll be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again." Matthew 7:1,2 The way I read this scripture is thus: When you judge be certain of the critera you use.
Are you judging based soley on race or gender? Are you judging based soley on only one version of the story? Are you baseing your judgement on the clothes a person wears? The same critera you use to judge others is what God will use to judge you.
This is not do not judge but rather, be very careful and very wary of passing judgement on people. This is not against calling sin sin. This is calling someone a sinner.

Is it OK to Be Judgmental

Matthew 7:1 is often misinterpreted as instruction against any form of judgment. However, upon closer review, the verse previously mentioned is not consistent with other scripture when interpreted as a charge to abstain from judgment. Scripture clearly teaches judgment otherwise Paul would not have rebuked James, disciple our children and church discipline would not be possible. The underlying notion of this passage is we (Christians) may judge actions compared to scripture, but we cannot judge motive since motives are known only to the individual and God. Far too many Christians find comfort in passivity. A quote I once heard went something like this: if you stand for nothing, you will fall for anything.

All people judge whether aware or not by comparison of people's actions if to nothing else but natural law. Judgment occurs at the assessment of character, criminal activity or moral and ethical allegations. Judgment of actions wrapped in love and tenderness is the correct approach for but by the grace of God there go we. Neither does the love approach call for soft shoeing when addressing the issue. Candid and direct confrontation in love though not always palatable, causes the individual to assess their behavior in light of God's word. The numerous occasions my wife or a friend would bring an issue to my attention I cannot count, but I personally would rather be confronted though I may not find the experience enjoyable than endure the proverbial event of having my skirt caught in my pantyhose. "They will know that you are my disciples because you love one another". Sometimes love is tough, and means we do the right thing whether we like it or not. Can you imagine the condition of our neighborhood, city, state and country if Christians would practice judgment with love. Like many functions of life, judgment can be good or bad and depends on our motives and method when exercised.

Judging

When a person is not repentant or seeks to cleave to their sins, they themselves become judges of those who they condemn as judging them! Whenever I rightly judge myself I am simply telling the truth about my sin, my stupidity, or my foolishness or whatever it may be. The men of Sodom & Gomorrah made it plain to Lot that they did not like the fact that he was speaking against their sinful desires. The same is true today. The only thing that bothers me is when fellow believers get stuck on inspecting every one else's fruit and never get around to inspecting their own.
2 Chronicles 7:14 has been applicable to every generation of believers. I know that true believers are covered by the blood of the spotless Lamb of God and saved by the riches of His grace. Yet God calls us to repent and to turn from our wicked ways because judgement will first began in the house of the Lord.

Judgmental by modern definition is a negative.

How you define the term "judge" will drive your conclusion that it's ok or not ok to judge.

We all understand common judging by choices of clothing, music, associates...

Judgmental is as Jeus referenced in John 6, judging unrighteous judgments. Unrighteous is simply as unrighteous meaning "not right". You got it wrong. Why? Because you more than likely didn't have all the necessary details to judge rightly. This paralyes the Christian because what can anyone person identify of whihc they could say they have infinite knowledge. Nothing.

But scripture mentions Christians judging the world or judging situation needing church discipline. How, when no one has infinite knowledge. In the same manner as every Christian becomes a Christian. Christ righteousness is imputed. So is God's ALREADY defined jugdments made available to the believer. The believer will not miss God's judgment if the believer finds God's already defined judgment. Sexual sins -- Lev 18. Idol worship -- Ex 20. Lying -- Ex 20. Attire -- 2 Tim. Church attendance -- Heb 10...

God has recorded in His word His judgment for every sin, regardless of type.

Judgmentalism is the stepping outside of God's judgment and subsituting our judgment.

"Man desires a world where

"Man desires a world where good and evil can be clearly distinguished, for he has an innate and and irrepressible desire to judge before he understands." - Milan Kundera
